About Richard Swaine
I have been working with adolescents and adults for over a decade, and I still find deep fulfillment in helping people navigate life’s challenges. Interestingly, becoming a therapist was my third career choice—after careers in Oceanography and Motorsports. While both were exciting in their own ways, nothing compares to the reward of guiding individuals toward healing, growth, and resilience.
My academic journey reflects my diverse interests and commitment to lifelong learning. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Florida (1985), followed by a Master of Marine Science from the University of South Florida (1996). However, it was my Master of Arts in Counseling from Liberty University (2007) that led me to my true calling.
I began my counseling career in private practice before moving into leadership roles, serving as a Director at a hospital and residential treatment programs. While managing teams, I never lost sight of my passion for direct client work, utilizing Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, and life transitions. Now, I’m excited to return to full-time counseling and bring my experience to the convenience and accessibility of Telehealth.
Outside of therapy, I’ve been married for over two decades and am a proud father of two adult children. I enjoy spending time with my wife, woodworking, hunting, and fishing—activities that keep me grounded and connected to the world around me.
If you're ready to take the next step in your mental health journey, I’m here to help.
